4 more reasons to love tile

What’s not to love about tile? It’s beautiful, versatile, long lasting and easy to maintain. With all that going for it, it seems too good to be true that there’s some health benefits to having tile in your home as well. Let’s explore a few reasons why tile is truly an excellent choice for a healthy environment:

  • Hypoallergenic-If you or anyone in your household has asthma or allergies, tile is a great option as it’s naturally hypoallergenic. The hard, smooth surface of tile doesn’t trap dust, pet dander and other allergens and is an inhospitable environment for dust mites. The ease of cleaning tile makes it easier to remove allergens.
  • Healthier indoor air- Ceramic, porcelain and glass tile are VOC, PVC and formaldehyde free, which makes them perfect for better indoor air quality. Tiles are fired at exceedingly high temperatures, so any organic compounds are completely burned away. And, since tile is easy to maintain with warm water and mild soap, less chemicals are needed when cleaning.
  • Microbe resistant- Fungi(mold and mildew), bacteria and viruses don’t fair too well in a tiled environment. Tile’s solid, flat surface is is uninviting to these microbes since it’s easy to clean and disinfect. There’s no food supply in tile for bacteria or fungi, so these microbes never have a chance to flourish.
  • Occupant safety- There’s literally thousands of options for slip-resistant floor tile, which should be a consideration when remodeling your bathroom or even your kitchen or entryways. Look for the DCOF(Dynamic coefficient of friction) value of a tile when shopping. The industry standard is .42, and so the higher the number the more anti-slip properties it possesses. Tile is also nonflammable, and doesn’t produce smoke or toxic fumes in the event of a fire.
